Saturday, July 23 – After breakfast at the hotel, transfer to
the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art, the largest center for contemporary
arts in the United States, for a guided tour. MASS MoCA exhibits work by many of the most important artists of today — both well known, and emerging — focusing on large-scale and complex installations that are impossible to realize in conventional museums. The institution is dedicated to the creation and presentation of provocative visual and performing arts pieces, and of works that blur conventional distinctions between artistic disciplines. Lunch at The Apple Tree Inn, located across the road from Tanglewood. Prior to 1976 when it became the last and best known Alice's Restaurant, it was operated for many years as an inn called Avaloch. In 1979, Alice Brock and Arlo Guthrie gave up the business and in 1983 it became The Apple Tree Inn. After lunch, transfer to Naumkeag House and Gardens for a guided tour of the house designed by noted architect Stanford White for the Choate family in 1885. Don’t miss the Blue Steps by landscape designer Fletcher Steele. Return to the Red Lion Inn for dinner on your own before transferring to Tanglewood for another exciting evening performance. Return to the Red Lion Inn for overnight. BL |

Sunday, July 24 – Breakfast at the hotel, and check out. Depart for a guided tour at The Sterling and Francine Clark Art Institute, with its intimate galleries and stunning natural environment. The Clark is best known for works of French Impressionism, especially the paintings of Renoir, and a fine collection of British and American silver. Transfer to Tanglewood for lunch on the festival grounds followed by an afternoon concert. Return to Ottawa, via Montreal, immediately after the concert, with a brief refreshment stop on the way. Estimated time of arrival at the Gallery is 11:30 p.m. BL |
