ITINERARY
THURSDAY, MAY 27 | D
Arrive in Gander early afternoon, where our guide, Ed Humber, will greet us at the airport.
Opened in 1959, the International Lounge at Gander Airport is an architectural gem featuring a striking mural and sculpture.
The mural, designed by renowned Canadian artist Kenneth Lochhead, is an important cultural treasure of Newfoundland & Labrador. We will take time to view this remarkable artwork before enjoying a brief tour of Gander.
We then travel to Twillingate via “The Road to the Isles,” a scenic coastal highway that winds through several islands off Newfoundland’s northeastern coast. Upon arrival, we check in to Echoes on the Ocean for a two-night stay.
FRIDAY, MAY 28 | B/L/D
After a leisurely breakfast at Pier 39, we depart for Boyd’s Cove to visit the Beothuk Interpretation Centre. Here, we explore exhibits and artifacts that tell the story of the Beothuk people—an Indigenous culture with its own distinct language and traditions.
Return to Pier 39 for an exquisite lunch.
This afternoon, we embark on a scenic cruise in search of majestic icebergs—some over 12,000 years old—calved from the Greenland ice shelf and slowly drifting through the frigid North Atlantic waters. Seeing these luminous giants up close is an unforgettable experience.
Enjoy time to relax before gathering again for a special dinner at Pier 39.
SATURDAY, MAY 29 | B/L/D
After breakfast, we check out and enjoy a scenic drive to the Farewell Ferry Terminal. Board the ferry for the 40- minute crossing to Fogo Island, keeping watch for seabirds and marine life along the way.
Upon arrival, we are welcomed at the celebrated Fogo Island Inn—a masterpiece of modern architecture perched dramatically at the edge of the North Atlantic. Every guest room faces the ocean, offering uninterrupted views of sea and sky.
Following lunch at the Inn, meet your Community Hosts for an island orientation. Through storytelling and local insight, they will introduce you to this remarkable place often described as “A Salty Narnia”—a land of rugged beauty, resilience, and deep cultural roots.
After dinner, we may have the opportunity to meet a representative from Shorefast—perhaps even founder Zita Cobb or her brother, Alan Cobb.
The evening concludes with time in the lounge, enjoying local musical entertainment in an atmosphere of warmth and hospitality.
SUNDAY, MAY 30 | B/L/D
Awaken to a delightful surprise outside your door: the Inn’s signature “Daybreak Tray,” featuring tea or coffee and freshly baked pastries delivered in a charming tackle box.
After breakfast, we visit the striking artist studios designed by internationally acclaimed architect Todd Saunders. We will also tour the Fogo Island Workshops, where traditional craftsmanship meets contemporary design.
Fogo Island’s ten distinctive outport communities reveal the enduring structures of the traditional fishery—stages, fish flakes, gear stores, and handcrafted wooden boats—offering deep insight into the island’s maritime heritage.
Return to the Inn for lunch, followed by an afternoon exploring Fogo Island’s artisan shops. Meet the skilled carpenters and craftspeople behind the Inn’s distinctive furnishings and learn how centuries-old traditions inspire modern design.
Dinner this evening showcases the Inn’s celebrated culinary philosophy: locally sourced and regionally inspired.
Nearly everything is handmade in-house—sausages, breads, baked goods, bacon, and even mustard.
After dinner, relax in the lounge or enjoy a film in the Inn’s state-of-the-art cinema.

MONDAY, MAY 31 | B/L/D
Following your Daybreak Tray and breakfast, we depart for Tilting—one of the most historically significant settlements in Eastern Canada. Often called “The Ireland of Canada,” Tilting preserves one of the longest continuations of Irish culture and dialect outside Ireland. Though initially settled by the English, it was quickly shaped by Irish settlers in the mid-18th century, whose legacy endures today.
Enjoy a traditional “Kitchen Party” lunch before returning to the Inn.
The afternoon is yours to relax—perhaps read in the library, soak in the rooftop hot tubs overlooking the ocean, or explore nearby trails.
This evening, gather for a farewell dinner, followed by entertainment. Afterward, enjoy spectacular stargazing with uninterrupted ocean views

TUESDAY, JUNE 1 | B/L
Savor your final Daybreak Tray and breakfast at the Fogo Island Inn.
After check-out, depart for the ferry to Farewell Terminal and continue by coach to Gander for your return flight to Ottawa—bringing home unforgettable memories of Newfoundland’s rugged beauty, rich heritage, and refined hospitality.
