“Each play is a tiny jewel of playwriting, from classic Coward comedies
to delightful musicals to moving dramas – some known and treasured, and some rarely,
if ever, seen. They require an extraordinary variety of skills from actors who must
revel in elegant bon mots one moment, glide effortlessly across the stage the next,
and then sink their teeth into a meaty dramatic moment to finish it all off. Perfect for our acting company, celebrated for its style and versatility. ...Directors, designers, actors and a myriad of others will turn these ideas into reality, but, as always, they won’t truly live and breathe until you are in the room with us. Come and be a part of our most adventurous and far-reaching season ever.” Jackie Maxwell, Artistic Director |

Wednesday, June 24 – Early morning departure from the National Gallery
of Canada.
Lunch at Chartreuse Restaurant in Kleinburg, a quaint country house that was transformed years ago into
two romantic dining rooms, with linen tablecloths, lace curtains, fresh roses and
light classical music. After lunch, a guided tour at McMichael Canadian Art Collection, the spiritual home of the Group of Seven. Late afternoon arrival at the Prince of Wales Hotel, our home for the next two nights. Located in the heart of historic Niagara-on-the-Lake, the Prince of Wales is an oasis of Victorian elegance filled with 21st century comforts. After a Welcome Buffet Dinner at the hotel, transfer to Festival Theatre for Shaw’s The Devil‘s Disciple. "I knew from the first that the devil was my natural master and captain and friend." “It’s the height of the American Revolution and Dick Dudgeon – the black sheep son – is known as the Devil’s Disciple. When he is mistaken for a crusading minister and imprisoned by English forces, the question becomes, who is really the saint and who is the sinner? A comedy, an adventure and a love story, its first production in 1897 was so successful that Shaw was able to quit his day job as a critic.” After the performance, return to the hotel. LD |

Thursday, June 25 – Following breakfast at the hotel, depart
for a guided tour of Historic Homes in Niagara-on-the-Lake. Lunch on your own in one of the delightful restaurants of the town. Meet at the hotel to transfer to the Royal George Theatre for a matinee performance of three Noel Coward plays in Play, Orchestra, Play. "While our illusions swiftly fade for us, let’s have an orchestra score." “In Red Peppers, the backstage lives of a down-at-heel singing and dancing comedy act are almost as entertaining as their onstage routines. In Fumed Oak, Henry Gow has simply had enough – of his job, his family and his life – and tonight he’s finally going to make his move. In Shadow Play, music and fantasy combine in a story about a couple falling in and out of love – or are they?” Transfer back to hotel after performance. Following dinner on your own, transfer to The Courthouse Theatre for the evening performance of Michel Tremblay’s Albertine in Five Times. "I remember ... I remember everything ..." “What would you say to your younger self if you had the chance? What if you met yourself 10, 20, 30 years in the future? Michel Tremblay takes his favourite character and puts her on stage with five versions of herself to talk to – five Albertines from ages 30 to 70. And she loves to talk. About her life, her marriage and her children with passion, honesty and humour.” Transfer to hotel following performance. B |
