The Stratford Shakespeare Festival 2009 playbill reflects its "commitment to
producing the works of William Shakespeare and his contemporaries, along with other
classical theatre repertoire and the work of living playwrights." "Our approach to creating a season is artist driven... We haven't simply come up with a list of plays and slotted people in. We have encouraged artists to come forward with their own dream projects,” said Artistic director Des McAnuff." We’ll get to sample some of those dream projects on this tour as well as tour lovely Stratford, enjoy the fascinating St. Jacobs Market and Village, including the Quilting Gallery, and savour the great food at Benjamin’s and The Olde Prune. Join us! It’s always a great time! |

THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 3 – Breakfast at the hotel, followed by
a morning sightseeing tour of the beautiful city of Stratford. The Victorian
era architecture in downtown Stratford adds to the charm and atmosphere of the
city and it was named Prettiest City in the World at the 1997 Nations in Bloom awards. Lunch on your own followed by a matinee performance of Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.” “Midsummer’s eve sees the lifting of the veil between the waking world and the unseen realm of spirits – and never with such hilarity as in this beloved classic. ...Love triumphs at dawn – but not before trickster Puck (Tom Rooney) has his way with all.” |
||
| Return to our hotel with free time for dinner on your own. Transfer to Festival Theatre for the evening performance of “West Side Story,” with the music of Leonard Bernstein. “Explosive dance numbers and a brilliant musical score ignite this modern-day retelling of Romeo and Juliet, presented for the first time on the Festival Theatre stage. Two rival gangs, the Jets and the Sharks, wage a turf war in the mean streets of New York City. But when Tony, best friend of Jets leader Riff, falls in love with Maria, sister to Sharks leader Bernardo, simmering tensions escalate to a shocking finale.“ B | ![]() |
