THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 5 | D
Arrive in Gander early afternoon. Our guide, Ed Humber will meet us upon arrival. Opened in 1959, the international lounge at Gander Airport is an avant- garde room featuring a large wall mural and sculpture. This mural designed by Kenneth Lochhead, is a significant part of the history of Newfoundland & Labrador. We get to view this very special artwork before continuing on our tour of Gander before checking in at the four star Sinbad’s Hotel & Suites. Enjoy a welcome dinner.
Overnight at Sinbad’s Hotel & Suites.

FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 6 | B/L/D
Following breakfast at our hotel checkout and travel on ”The Road to the Isles” ( a scenic highway that passes through several islands off the coast of Newfoundland ) to Twillingate, one of the most picturesque outports in Newfoundland. Enroute we will visit the Beothuk Interpretation Center in Boyd’s Cove where one can view multipile exhibits and artefacts of the Beothuk peoples, a now extinct culture with their own unique language and way of life. Enjoy a delicious lunch at Pier 39 before visiting Twillingate Museum with its fine collection of antiques. Visit an interesting cemetary behind the museum, overlooking the ocean. This is the resting place for the prima donna soprano Georgina Stirling, who performed all over Europe, including La Scala in Milan, Italy, under the name of Madame Toulinquet. Check in at a couple of deluxe B & B’s including ”Echoes on the Ocean”.
Tonight we will get to enjoy a dinner theatre performance at the New World Island Theatre.
Overnight at your B & B.

SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 7 | B/L/D
Auk Island Winery
Following a leisurely breakfast at Pier 39 we will depart for a morning sightseeing tour including a visit to Dorrell Museum overlooking the ocean. The museum houses community artifacts from the late 1800’s to the early 1900’s. Go back in time and see and feel what it was like in that era. Return to Pier 39 for an exquisite lunch.
This afternoon a little more sightseeing including a tour and wine tasting at the Auk Island winery, this name honoring the one-of-a-kind Great Auk. It was North American’s only flightless bird and the world’s original penguin before it became extinct in 1844.
Return to our accommodations for a couple of hours relaxation before a special dinner and entertainment at Pier 39.

SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 8 | B/L/D
Following breakfast at Pier 39, checkout and enjoy the scenic drive to Farewell Ferry Terminal. Board your awaiting ferry and take pleasure in the 40 minute ferry ride to Fogo Island. Look out into the distance and search for sea life.
Arrive on Fogo Island just in time for lunch which will be enjoyed at the celebrated Fogo Island Inn – a remote yet luxurious hotel. This world-famous hotel, you have to see to believe, sits gloriously on the edge of the island at one of the four corners of the Earth. Each luxurious room is facing the ocean.
After lunch, meet your community Hosts who will take you for your Island Orientation. Throughout the tour, they will share stories that will help you understand this place they call ”A Salty Narnia.” Fogo Island literature describes the culture of the island by describing its people as: ”(those) who have retained their wild, intellectual heritage: whose sense of self comes from a deep historical sense of landscape and seascape: people who are profoundly at home on this ‘edge of the known’.” After dinner you will meet with someone from Shorefest – perhaps Zita Cobb herself or her brother Alan Cob! Then enjoy dinner and return to the lounge to relax, unwind and revel in some local musical entertainment.

MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 9 | B/L/D
Wake up and meet the day with a special surprise just outside your door. The Day Break Tray features tea or coffee and pastries, served in a convenient ”Tackle Box”.
This morning following breakfast in the Dining Room, we will depart the hotel for a tour of the artist studios designed by Todd Saunders. Visit to the Fogo Island workshops and the Island’s 10 distinctive outport communities offer an opportunity to understand the structures of the traditional fishery, Stages, gear stores, fish flakes and handmade wooden boats.
Return to the Inn for a delicious lunch and then leave for another half-day tour of the Fogo Island Shops. Immerse yourself in the cultural arts while touring the workshops and meeting talented carpenters behind the distinctive pieces of furniture. Learn more about the traditions that make these contemporary pieces of art so amazing.
This evening enjoy supper at the Inn. Like the handmade, mordern aesthetic of the Inn the provenance of every menu is inspired by local and regional ingredients. Everything coming out of the kitchen is handmade – sausages, bread, baked goods, bacon and even mustard.
After supper enjoy the Inn’s state-of-the art Cinema or just relax in the lounge.

TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 10 | B/L/D
After enjoying your Day Break Tray and Breakfast we will depart for another sightseeing tour – this one at Tilting. One of the most historically significant settlements in Eastern Canada, it is also considered The Ireland of Canada with the longest use of Irish Culture and dialect. Although the English did settle in Tilting prior to the Irish, the English settlement was short-lived and quickly taken over by the Irish in the mid-18th century.
Afterwards enjoy a Kitchen Party lunch in the Area before leaving Tilting to return to the Inn.
Upon return take the remainder of the afternoon for yourself before joining our group for supper and a little entertainment. After dinner try some stargazing with interrupted view of the Ocean and the sky above you or soak in the rooftop hot tubs.

WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 11 | B/L
Wake up and enjoy your “Daybreak Tray” before going down to the Dining Room for your final breakfast at the Fogo Island Inn.
